Educational Workshops

Changes in spending habits and changes in food choices can make a sometimes dramatic difference in family budgets, family nutrition, student success and family health. How to make those changes is the focus on of the Food Pantry’s free educational offerings. These short courses—each lasting about an hour and held once a month—address budgeting, menu planning, shopping tips and nutrition. The courses center on the extremely important role that good nutritional choices play in health for the entire family and, among young families, their children’s success in school.

Eligibility: An applicant must be a Bastrop County resident who has received a Food Pantry service in the last 12 months. Intake Process at the Pantry office is required.

You must meet the income requirements based on 185% of Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Application Process: Walk-ins are welcomed, no appointment needed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (closed from noon to 1 p.m.).   English and Spanish speaking.

Program Fees: None

 Documents Required:

  • Proof of identification (a photo ID such as driver’s license or student or work identification).
  • A recent utility bill or other proof of Bastrop County residency received within the past 30 days.
  • Proof of Total Household Gross Income, over the last 90 days, such as:
    • Paycheck stubs for each member of the household that is employed.
    • Social Security Income and/or SSI Disability Income award letter
    • Direct deposit bank statement
    • Food stamp benefit notice
    • Alimony and child support

To get to the Food Pantry office:

From the intersection of TX 95 and TX 21 E: proceed west on Chestnut Street (Loop 150) toward downtown Bastrop. At the first cross street after the railroad tracks (Haysel), turn left and proceed one block to the intersection of Haysel and Pine Streets. Turn left onto Pine Street and proceed to the next cross street, just before the railroad tracks (Fayette Street). Turn right to the Food Pantry office on your right, in the middle of the block.

From the west, exit HWY 71 from Austin: take the Loop 150 exit, proceed on the service road to the second light (Loop 150/Chestnut), turn left under HWY 71 onto Loop 150 (Chestnut) and proceed in a northeast direction, through old downtown Bastrop, to the last cross street before railroad tracks (Haysel). Turn right onto Haysel and proceed one block to the intersection of Haysel and Pine Streets. Turn left onto Pine Street and proceed to the next cross street, just before the railroad tracks (Fayette Street). Turn right to the Food Pantry office on your right, in the middle of the block.
